Federal real estate officials agree that the General Services Administration, the government’s landlord, isn’t keeping up with a multi-billion-dollar maintenance backlog.

Under the Trump administration, GSA proposed shedding 50% of its total office space, selling many of the office buildings in its portfolio, and moving much of the federal workforce into leased offices.

That long-term plan, however, doesn’t address the immediate concerns of federal employees who say they’re dealing with mold, rodents and problems accessing safe drinking water in their offices.
