    It also allows a good work-life balance. The ship is your home, your coworkers are your friends and neighbors, you have complete access to physical and mental healthcare you don’t have to worry about bankrupting you. When working-to-live doesn’t consume all of your time, that gives you freedom to pursue whatever you want to pursue. You can enjoy activities without being bombarded with ads every 12 seconds or social pressures. The food you’re provided is either inherently healthy or made with pride so it’s not 35% salt and cheap processed fillers inherently bad for you so obesity is a thing of the past. So everyone is relatively in good health, in shape or otherwise comfortable with who they are if they don’t have 6-pack abs and vascular arms.

    It’s also kinda interesting that command officers are openly allowed to engage in any relationship they want to with people who report to them, without any worry of stigma, workplace reprisal, or issues with professionalism/favoritism.
