Tell that to French old ladies. I’ve had the pleasure of waiting in line at the supermarket check out while Granny in front writes a cheque for her groceries, far more recently than you’d expect!

Bloody small cylinders, always getting stuck in things!
Or “if you think the reason for the result is not correct” could cover it.

memes@lemmy.world•Lazy dullards dependent on AI ask questions like this:
13·2 months agoYeah we used to imagine a future where all the household tasks were done by robots, and we humans busied ourselves with intellectual work (e.g. The Jetsons).
But as it turns out, generating text and computer files is relatively easy for machines, but physical robotics in uncontrolled dynamic environments is a tough problem.
Oh yeah I got my inches wrong 🤦♂️
3.5" floppy (left). Those badboys actually were floppy. Not sure about the other.
I remember my parents planning long journeys using some piece of software (AA branded I think) that would print out all your turns, intersections and distance between them (in the late 90s).
In the mid 00s when I needed to navigate myself, I would plan it out on a map (Melways crew rise up!) and write myself prompts on paper in big writing with arrows so I could glance at it while driving.
Basically exactly like modern sat nav but without the live traffic.
I’ve heard if you take certain hallucinogens you can…
Not everyone gets lots of love, but I’m glad you do ;-)
Is national insurance the name of a privatised insurance company in the US?
Cos here in the UK that’s what they call the more regressive part of our tax system that’s notionally earmarked for public health, state pension, unemployment benefit, etc…

Although lots of the replies to this are useful and informative, this seems like the kind of common and basic question where there should just be a resource we can signpost people to, with easy steps and answers to frequently- encountered issues, presented in an order and with language that supports but does not overwhelm interested parties…
Anyone know of one, or want to help make one?
Probably about 7 hands.

1·8 months agoOh some of those natural body smells do linger, I’m afraid. I pray you never need to know that as viscerally as I know it.
But still yeah I agree, artificial scent bad. But so normalised. I often think about ‘brave new world’ when I walk into a reception area or house where they’re pumping out oderiser. I’m just glad public transport doesn’t yet pipe the shit in.

1·8 months agoSome people are just smelly even when they have washed, for various reasons. Obnoxious levels of perfume may actually be better than the alternative in some cases.
Although even unpleasant body smells don’t usually make me sneeze or my eyes itch like most perfume does…
Lol, one of those things is different from the others 🤔

My local already has advent calendars and Christmas stuff out (only in one isle, not full- blown chraids yet)
