I remember sitting on the beach, with my palm pilot and my Siemens mobile phone talking IrDA, and using telnet(!) on the palm pilot to log into the companies’ server to fix something during my holiday.
That was probably before half of the current netizens were born.
Just using “netizens” is enough to show your age, LOL!
I had a Compaq iPAQ and I think a laptop or two with IrDA back in the day, but I don’t remember ever actually using it.
Oh, I used IrDA quite frequently. I took job notes on my palm pilot, and used HP printers to print them.
You should have seen the face of the secretary at a customers place. I asked her if I could print my report on her printer (connected via parallel port to her PC, no network). She said yes and stood up, I told her to stay seated, pointed my palm pilot to her printer, and it magically produced a page…
