interesting, especially the part noting families in non industrialist places having children further apart in age, (4 years apart on average) versus industrialists having children all very close in age.
I co slept (as safely as I could), and breastfed like the article. I was single with the newborn. Me and the little shared a queen size matress on the floor. I nursed him through the nights right from bed and I could sleep better. All my trying, I couldnt get my first (and only) to sleep through the night on his own until he was about 16months old. Large mattress on the floor worked perfectly for us. I did wake often, but fell back asleep easily.
Also, the article also mentions social support, and the lack of it in modern industrial culture. Duh. I had almost no social support from anyone taking care that baby, my family wanted nothing to do with us in that regard. The Article mentions even other women nursing the baby, outside mom. Sounds wierd at first, but I bet its only weird once, and you get over it kind of thing.
I never told anyone I co slept, here in the US, people will yell at you if you do. Kid’s 13 now so… I did it as safely as I could, and honestly, was very helpful in that time.
