Sam Altman just said “AI did it” and washed his hands of his crime.
Some will complain but no one will hold him accountable.
AI is and will be controlled by those with the least ethics, to satisfy their greed and vanity.
AI is, in some ways, the most powerful tool ever created. And power corrupts…
Ethics matters, but it is in very short supply. And AI will amplify that.
AI: Plausible deniability in a can.
This piece is very strange to me. It follows the logic through “electoral politics have handed the worst people the power to distort reality itself with their relentless lies,” and then just casually pivots to “so try to think about how your day-to-day work affects others” and it seems incongruous to the point of almost being non sequitur. “The ship is sinking, all is lost, so make sure to arrange the deck chairs in a way that makes it fun and easy for people to listen to the band.”
The article doesn’t make its point very coherently especially near the end and is probably AI, but I think it kind of makes sense if you assume individual attitudes towards bad-faith media affect whether bullshit is successful, in context of the idea that the core problem is that people’s susceptibility to bullshit selects for the most egregious bullshitters.
