    I support wanting to leave. I think it’s a good idea for services to have an offline option for those who choose to forgo online, or can’t use online services.

    I’m not gonna leave. I want the internet to be better. I think that only happens if people stick around and do what they can to make it better. But I can see why people would want to opt out.

    I think there’s a lot to be said for weighting more heavily toward offline reference sources (like Kiwix), self hosting and AI agents / LLMs that one runs locally.

    I happen to be an avid collector of books, CDs and periodicals, and have been having a good time rediscovering them and lessening my time spent going to the same five websites and apps.

    I vividly remember the Internet of the late 90s and early 2000s. It was fun, quirky, personal and genuinely interesting in a way that today’s corporatized internet is not. There was a spirit of genuine optimism about the emerging digital world, and much less of a monoculture.
