I think it’s pretty simple. The consumer spending can’t afford to prop up the GDP/stock market anymore. We used to be 70% of the GDP of the US. That has been usurped by AI. The top 10% of earners in this country account for 50% of the GDP. It used to be poor people and the middle class propping up the economy but they can’t anymore because the middle class is basically non-existent, and everything is so expensive now that poor people can’t afford anything.
So the stock market would be in free fall and the economy would be in much worse shape if they did try to hold big tech accountable for/address big tech’s debt. Big tech has an MLM house of cards style circlejerk going on right now and it is pretty obvious that the stock market wants to wait that out and hope only one or two major players are left holding the bag and the government will bail them out.
