This is great! I can finally generate some linkedin lunatics

Three years ago, I walked into a board presentation wearing one shoe.

Not metaphorically. Literally one shoe. The other was in my car because I’d been driving and forgot to put it back on. I didn’t notice until I was already at the whiteboard presenting our entire five-year strategy to twelve people who were absolutely noticing.

I had two choices. Pretend nothing was happening, which was impossible. Or own it completely, which was terrifying.

So I looked down. Looked up. And said “Gentlemen, this is what asymmetrical thinking looks like.”

The room laughed. The presentation went better than any I’d ever given.

But here’s what nobody talks about: failing spectacularly in front of people who expect you to fail anyway is actually the most powerful leadership move available to women.

We are so conditioned to be perfect before we speak. Prepared before we lead. Polished before we dare take up space.

That one shoeless afternoon taught me that women who recover from public disasters with humor and zero apology are genuinely ungovernable. And ungovernable women change rooms forever.

My girl Sarah saw that presentation. She’s now our division director. She told me last week she got through her toughest board moment by remembering the shoe story.

That’s the real inheritance we leave each other.

Not perfection. Not the flawless pitch. The spectacular stumble walked back with your chin up and your one remaining heel clicking.

We are literally building the table one embarrassing moment at a time, queens.

wow, that one is actually good. out there, but on the cusp of being believable (as far as the bullshit actual people used to post on linkedin a few years ago is concerned)
