Like. I get everyone has different tastes, but if we’re gonna kill any one current genre can we start with Live-Service? Games that expect you to do nothing but play them?

Just skimmed zhe article. I understand that people see vampire survivor as “self playing” (which sounds like the author does not know the term idle-games) and then they named two more examples which aren’t self playing…

If you need me to interact so the character survives its not self playing.

I played a game “Adventure Land” on Steam. Whole purpose was to automate everything, but with code (Javascript). It had everything, trade, pvp, rare loot & bosses. That was fun! In the era before AI atleast. Not sure how i’d feel nowadays losing to some vibecoded accounts.

Anyhow, the feeling that your characters were leveling and making money while I touch grass, work etc and to come back to full bags of loot was great.

I think these games have their place. Dont like it dont play it.

There is a game called Progress Quest. Long while back, we would load it on a PC and give it a look every now and then whilst it played and increased levels. The thing about that game is that it had a ton of fun names for things. Our favorite was the +7 Sword of Wootness. Stuff like that gave the game a fun spin.

On my phone, I have a newer one called Idle Fantasy. It’s fine. I like these apps for their novelty, and even though this one has less fun names it is still neat to have a sense of accomplishment without having done anything.
