    The only reason for software to be slow is drive hardware sales.

      If that was the reason then their would be a massive difference between companies that produce software and hardware and the ones that produce just software, since the latter have no incentive to prop up hardware sales.

      In reality it’s mostly a mix of bad product management, time pressure, and bad developer training, leading people to standardise on inefficient tech stacks like electron, overloading it with the sluggish spaghetti code, and using at least 3 external libraries for the same thing, except tracking, for tracking, management wants every single one of them.
