“But why do you want that?” should be a bannable offense, in response to clear technical questions. If it follows a real answer, even a flat “that cannot work” - sure, tangentially investigate a head-scratching intent. If it’s the entire response… get out. Derailing horseshit makes people feel clever and helpful for negligible effort.

I don’t need to talk you into why I’m trying to do this thing. I need to know why some part of it broke. I tried a bunch of workarounds. I fucking Googled it. I am here asking a gaggle of randos out of desperation. Part of why it’s a last resort is the gamble of whether the first reply will be some fucknugget interrogating my use-case, and now that’s what all attention falls on the puzzle of what strangers think I ought to want, instead of what I fucking asked for.

Let people make their own mistakes. This is how we learn.
