We can all talk numbers all day, and we should. But for the simple version of this that might actually start to get to people. We, collectively as a people, are not buying your shit. Period.
Jack Daniels, Harley’s, McDonald’s, Coke, the “flagship brands” that ooze Americana, they’re toxic. Nobody wants to be seen with a Macdonald’s bag or an Amazon box on their step.
Tarrifs or no, whether they trade deal went through or not, this is no longer really about government officials and business dealings. You might be ALLOWED to sell jack here again someday after hard fought negotiations, but you no longer have a market here.
This isn’t terminally online loons and anti-capitalist activists. This is people’s nans and aunts, schoolteachers, garbagemen. People who are not politically engaged at all have still permanently changed their spending habits.
That’s what you’ve accomplished by allowing the orange menace to remain in office. And every day longer he stays there is a month in our collective memories.
This isn’t going back.
I honestly really admire the solidarity Canada is displaying here. I wish it was the same in the States.
