As a Swede, “cåt” is pronounced exactly like “kåt”, which is slang for horny…
Huh for me its ä. While in swedish ä is only close to cat, in finnish for example its exactly the same sound so ä is a pretty solid pick.
I believe they used ä not å and my guess would be it’s because of the eyes
And if you write “cat” in german just live it sounds it would be “kät”
