I like smart things, but I like smart things I own.

If it can’t be controlled fully offline with no Internet and no Cloud, it has no place in my house.

glad this economic cycle is weeding out uncompetitive products then… I suppose that’s inevitable. I doubt a $1500 toaster that couldn’t find a foothold in the market is a harbinger for the death of smart products, however.

Sunny day functionality (no clouds) is a core requirement for any smart device I have in my home. Home goods are on 20+ year lifespans; servers are on 2 year lifespans.

And yet … there still are people proud of having their backups in the cloud.
