Did we really need another reason to hate Sony? I think I’ll go seed some of their material in response.
This is a guide for circumventing Sony’s restrictions on streaming with the PS5. I’m not defending Sony here, but I’m saying that This isn’t a reason to hate Sony because it isn’t an article about Sony doing something bad. This is a hacking guide.
Needing to “hack” hardware you spent a lot of money on because the company is trying yo control it after the sale - seems like a reason to at least bash them…
Oh absolutely, no argument there at all.
But… this isn’t an article complaining about the problem, this is the hack that solves it.
Sony locks the wireless stack to their own peripherals, so your headphones or controllers from other brands simply won’t pair :/

Yeah, but I don’t think that has anything to do with the console’s Bluetooth stack, though. If a game requires a specific controller, that’s usually so that controller-specific features (like touchpad/gyro) will work, which wouldn’t work with an otherwise-standard controller HID profile. This also wouldn’t prevent the device from pairing, which is quite specific terminology that the author uses.
But the way the author describes it, it sounds like at an OS-level that you can’t pair third-party bluetooth accessories, which is such a wildly inaccurate statement to start an article off with, and immediately makes me question the credibility of everything else they write.

The PS5 controller works really well on Bazzite, fwiw. I also used an old PS3 controller with MacOS, iPads and Fedora.
I use it for emulators and some side scrollers on my laptop running CachyOS. Works beautifully.
Sonys own brand won’t even connect to the PS5, it’d be nice to use wireless headphones with it but I have to use it through the controller :/
