ztmux is a from-source port of tmux to Rust — the server, the client, the grid and screen model, the input parser, layouts, the command language, formats, and the terminal backend. Not a wrapper around the tmux binary and not control mode; it opens its own socket namespace (ztmux-<uid>) so it never collides with a running tmux. Things the port doesn’t have, added beside it: triggers runs any ztmux command when a regex matches a pane’s output, which revives tmux’s removed monitor-content as a general sense-and-act loop. stack ports zellij’s StackedPanes model and realises it through tmux’s own layout engine, since tmux has no PaneGeom. pick gives you a multi-pane mark set where tmux has exactly one marked pane and all-or-nothing synchronize-panes. There’s an opt-in ratatui layer (ZTMUX_RATATUI=1) for a which-key bar and a command palette. The destructive ones — prune, bcast, equalize, layout — are dry-run by default and need -f. cargo install ztmux. Happy to get into the gate, the parity harness, or what breaks when you move a 30-year-old C event loop into Rust. Comments
