Automating things, even when it doesn't save time, is how you learn the skills to automate the things that will.

    I appreciate what they’re saying, but its basically changing the nature of the question:

    • They’re saying “it’s better to learn something new”
    • XKCD is saying “it’s not always worth the time to automate”

    There are many times I’ve known how to automate something, but the cost of doing it wouldn’t be worth it.
