Let’s see some socialist policies then
Congrats New York, that’s great he won. Please don’t let him pull a Fetterman.
Not an issue as Fetterman is a Zionist first politician posing as a working class hero.
Not likely. Fetterman has two huge issues that pull him towards MAGA: a) tons of MAGA voters he must appease, and b) the stroke that messed up his brain.
tons of MAGA voters he must appease
Dunno what current polling is like but Fetterman did not win with any support from MAGA. the right had a meltdown after his win was announced
Between Fetterman, Gabbard and Sinema, I think the DNC is intentionally pushing candidates like them knowing they’ll eventually flip. They’re laughing all the way to the bank while we argue over how to put them back in power. They have us right where they want us. It seems like the thing they do best, even more so than losing and governing ineffectively when they win, is the bait and switch.
Hopefully this heralds the realignment of the Democrats back towards a pro-worker party. Neoliberalism has failed this country for 35 years.
Quomo is a comically bad candidate and Mamdani is a very good one so I don’t think we can expect results like this in every primary. If progressives can keep finding highly qualified people I think we have a chance.

Did you see how hard the democratic establishment worked against him? Nah.
We need Bernie, AOC and some like minded folks to start a new party. Dems want to blame progressives for every loss? Fine. Give progressives a party full of established voices and known leaders. See how Dems do when NONE of the progressives give them a vote.
And holy shit I just may have realized why 2020 made D track right instead of left. They know the non-monied class is slowly realizing what they stand for, and need to peel off R votes.
Establishment Dems have been tracking right for decades. Clinton was a blue dog Democrat. Obama initially presented as more left, but ultimately didn’t govern that way.
The DNC needs to just finish the slow metamorphosis they’ve been going through for decades and finally merge with the RNC so we can get a new actual opposition party. It’s looking likely that that new party would end up being the democratic socialist party.
Sure, but how the hell was 2020 not a wake up call if representing the people actually mattered to them. I’m willing to give Clinton and to a lesser extent Obama some slack for being a product of their time. R hated Clinton then about as much as they do AOC now.
This is why 62% of Democrats say they need new leaders. The neoliberals (and their billionaire backers) are afraid of losing power while the ground-level party is already shifting. I’m not convinced that splitting off the progressives will be productive in our current electoral system. By the time the Democrats die off the fascists will have abolished elections. Instead I envision an outcome similar to the political realignment the GOP just finished, where a growing progressive caucus gains enough traction in primaries to force concessions from the party leadership until the neoliberals are all but pushed out entirely.

I’d love for that to happen, but OP is literally the only crack I see.
We need like a hundred more Mamdanis and AOCs.
I’m a DNC Strategist and I think the ONLY Reason people Voted for the Guy Promising to Help the Working Class is because Sexual Harasser Andrew Cuomo didn’t have ENOUGH Billionaires backing Him! Next time we’ll be SURE to get even MORE Billionaires like Elon Musk to Back our Candidates so their Message of “Fuck you” can REALLY Resonate with our Voters!
Socialism = anything that helps anyone.
Got it.
I mean, yeah, that’s the problem that a lot of political commentary has right now, but Mamdani is explicitly a member of the DSA.
socialism
noun
so·cial·ism ˈsō-shə-ˌli-zəm
any of various egalitarian economic and political theories or movements advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
Not anyone. Billionaires will not be helped by this.
He’s literally a socialist lol he is explicit about it
Yep, he is a Democratic Socialist which is actual socialism, unlike Social Democrats who are still capitalists.
Democratic socialist ≠ socialist
You may be confusing democratic socialism and social democracy. They are similar in their short-term goals, but democratic socialist have fundamental economic reform as their long-term goal, while social democrats just want to curtail the social problems of capitalism.
No true Scotsman nonsense. Different flavor of the same dessert. There is no pure “socialism,” it’s implemented differently in different places with different tags of all kinds.
It’s socialism but with democratic processes/participation at its core. Economic theory is basically the same.
I predict that some of his policies will blow up in his face when they don’t work and then there will be a conservative backlash against democrats in the next election. Happened in SF
