    When Picard says humans have changed, and the topic are the scales of justice, I think he’s right that the measure of humanity is higher than in the past, and that they’ve truly hit some critical milestone on their journey, and that they’ve earned more time.

    Other times Picard seems to be addressing the ugliness in the room when he champions “humans have changed!”

    One is a lawyer arguing over a nuanced truth and the other is a paladin demanding people do better.
