I think I’m sort of overspending on the CPU and the monitor. Could anybody offer some advice?
You could drop down to a ryzen 5 cpu and a 140hz monitor if you want to save a bit.
If you want 280hz then you’re gonna need a beefy CPU. But if you want to go with something more sane like 144hz then you could drop to a regular 7700x and be good.
I’m personally morally against CPU bottlenecks (they pain my soul) so I’d personally spend the extra money on it. But not everyone is as bothered by them as me.
How is it calculated that this would result in a CPU bottleneck?
It’s obviously game dependent. But in general more frames needs more CPU (and GPU)
I’d ditch AMD and go Intel (Intel is in a hole right now, though), with a motherboard that supports Coreboot. I’d recommend an MSI Z690-A for that, and maybe add an Intel Core i7-12700KF. Heck, maybe you could do a customized System76 build, unless you intend on using Windows. Otherwise, everything seems mighty fine and dandy, with exception to the GPU, as that might not perform well, since Gigabyte doesn’t really do a good job with their GPU’s sometimes.
