Over the past 2 years, 230 intersections in Flanders were equipped with “intelligent traffic lights”, lights that take into account how busy roads are. Today 200,000 motorists and other road users possess an app that can control such lights. But because the most popular traffic apps like Google Maps and Waze are not participating in the project, the system only reaches a small proportion of drivers and cyclists.
This seems like such a roundabout and inflexible way of achieving this, and that’s without going into how it’s blatantly car centric in the face of all the evidence that that school of infrastructure planning is kinda stupid
