Most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs were ruled illegal by a federal appeals court that found he exceeded his authority by imposing them through an emergency law, but the judges let the levies stay in place while the case proceeds.
So, this goes on until the Supreme Court (maybe) says that it stands. In which case, companies start to sue for their tariffs back. That money will of course not make it’s way back to consumers, and they will keep the prices of products where they ended up after tariffs, but now they keep it, plus the money they get from back tariff.
So, predictably, the consumer loses. This is the most American thing one can imagine.
