www.linkedin.comI'm excited to share a significant update on Google's continued investment in the Rust ecosystem, which is playing a vital role in enhancing the security and performance of Android.
We're proud to announce a donation of $250,000 to the Rust Foundation. This funding is specifically earmarked to support ongoing efforts focused on interoperability between Rust and other languages. Seamless interoperability is crucial for enabling developers to integrate the security and safety benefits of Rust into existing codebases.
Additionally, to further solidify the future of Rust quality assurance, we are providing $100,000 in Google Cloud credits to support the Rust Crater infrastructure. Crater is a fundamental tool for checking how changes to the Rust compiler and standard library impact the broader ecosystem. Our support will help ensure this critical infrastructure remains robust and fast for the community.
Google has been a long-time supporter of Rust, and we've seen firsthand how adopting it has reduced security vulnerabilities in the Android OS. Our commitment to the Rust project reflects our belief that this is one of the most impactful ways to continue advancing the safety and innovation of the entire Android platform.
We look forward to seeing the new developments these contributions will enable for the Rust community and, by extension, the billions of devices running Android worldwide.
