Quoting crime statistics based on race, like the old “13/50” trope, is often used to enforce racist notions that minority groups are inherently bad people. It’s punching down at marginalized people.

This meme, at least as I see it, is the opposite. It’s satirizing the usual crap from the anti-feminist crowd claiming that women are inherently inferior. It’s punching up at sexist men.

Statistics put men globally as being 81% of the victims of violent crime. And the perpetrators of that crime being less than 1% of the male population. So to put it another way, youre making the same argument as racists when they claim that all black guys sell drugs because some black guy sold them a joint one time.

This is just yet another in a long line of “men bad” memes, in an online society that accepts and celebrates bigotry.

So…statistics are only valid when they promote your ideals?

Or is it that, in your mind, the stats that don’t run parallel with your ideals have obviously been misinterpreted or fudged?

Just trying to figure out your stance on statistical data.

Stats are valid when they are used in the proper context and are not being misrepresented. For example, Black and Native American people account for a disproportionate number of drowning deaths in the US. But it would be irresponsible to simply conclude that those groups are inherently bad swimmers. Just like the way the 13/50 trope is irresponsibly used to imply non-whites are inherently more prone to criminal behavior.

All that aside, this meme isn’t attacking men. It’s attacking sexist tropes used against women.

Nah, it’s a sexist joke. But it’s funny because “Haha, men bad”.

It’s equivalent to making a joke like this: “Men do care about their feelings. Feeling their dick being sucked”

Statistics are just numbers. What matters is how they are used. Anyone who has studied stats knows that it’s common to craft misleading conclusions from real data.

So what is the “right” way to use them?

So long as they are helping the “downtrodden”* it’s ok to see the numbers differently?

I have studied statistics. In my studies I learned that numbers do not lie, people lie. And, as was stated before, people can manipulate numbers to match their narrative.

I’ve seen studies published as “fact” just because the author manipulated the numbers to match their findings.

This is what we should base our outlook on?

*in this instance, “downtrodden” refers to the person or group deemed savable by those who are looking to be a savior.

I’ve seen critically reviewed papers that mouth breathers like you are taking up too much oxygen. You should look at yourself in the mirror. How much does it hurt?

It’s specious and fallacious but it’s all you’ve got!
