Yup. Everyone should be using it, at least for social networking. It’s so easy to get IP addresses.

Is it? I mean, on commercial social media. Or do you mean service providers see your IP? Of course they do. It’s not a matter of rig being “easy” it’s a matter of that’s how the internet works.

The way you wrote it makes it sound like other users on commercial social media can easily get your IP.

You can’t embed images in dms on alt accounts on commercial media. Maybe you can send them a link, but that’s different.

Yawn. There are lots and lots of ways to expose a public facing IP address. My point is people should be using a VPN for this purpose. You’re on the iCloud relay. Good! No one considers that a “privacy” solution but realistically not everyone needs a logless VPN for random internet traffic.

You’re a jackass for being asked a specific question and then abusing lemmy’s DMs instead of answering. My question was clearly written with the knowledge that lemmy is different. You could also just run your own lemmy server.

Lemmy is no different than any other Internet traffic. There is always a way to expose a person’s public facing IP. Sometimes it takes more effort. Lemmy Just happens to be one of the most insecure places on the Internet
