As a mechanical engineer I’ve used this site an insane amount

Adding: Mcmaster-carr is expensive though, but you are paying for next morning delivery, 3D models, dimensioned drawings, and detailed specifications with certifications, of everything they offer in an easy to use website. And they did all this before Amazon existed

They even have plugin for CAD software SolidWorks so you don’t even have to visit the website to access their models and can build a book of materials from your SolidWorks assembly. But the price adds up and l often eventually switch over to other suppliers later if the design goes into high enough volume production.

As the article states, supplying CAD models is a huge benefit. I have specified McMaster parts just because they were available and provided a model all while being slightly more expensive. A rarity in my field.

Pretty much anyone who has dabbled with mechanical engineering in North America should know about it. Though only those with industrial scale budgets or simplyvthe need for a specific part immediately would order from there.

    That’s lovely.
And I just realised what I needed was an Internal and External Tooth Lock washer. I didn’t know before, what it was called.

A pity that the US pricing is to high for my country, on top of which, it might be shipped from the US, adding expense.

I see, so this is essentially there to make prototyping easier and faster and the high component cost is a premium for the value added service.
Makes sense for anyone working in a company.
Perhaps not for someone with a low budget.
