Oh boo freakin hoo, the economy is suffering because we’re suffering. More billionaires losing money sounds like am ideal way of making us feel a little better about paying more and getting less for Thanksgiving this year.

15 years ago phones got 2X CPU speed, 2X RAM size, and 2X storage size every single year, for the same price.

10 years ago phones got like 20% faster CPU every year, and 1.5X storage size every three years, and you can still find barely usable phones with only 2GB RAM manufactured in 2025.

Now even 5% faster CPU per year is an achievement, and it costs battery life.

Do you need to buy a new phone each year? Only if you smashed your old one. Don’t expect any performance improvement in games, and your CPU speed does not matter if you only send emails and read news.

Exactly. The only thing that’s had me replacing phones is that they go out of support and at this point since it looks like I’ll have to switch to graphene, fuck it. I’ll just replace batteries and be done with buying new phones.

Well what do they expect in a world where a new toaster or fridge has to connect to the internet to track everything you eat and more, only to fail in less than a year and not even be covered by warranty…

When grandma’s toaster and fridge from 1978 still work fine, do exactly what they were designed to do and only what they were designed to do, and the only repairs they needed were when the toaster got hit by lightning in 1987 and needed a new fuse and the fridge needed new door seals back in 2003…

Seriously, what ever happened to designing simple products (that don’t spy on you no less) to last practically forever?

I’m like this but with cars moreso. Nowadays, your car can be perfectly fine, but if something the onboard computer doesn’t like happens, then you effectively have a big brick. It’s stupid. I’m not a car guy, but I’m doing everything I can to prolong the life of my “dumb” car.
