You can trust the Americans to always do the right thing.

After they’ve tried literally everything else first.

Eugenics skips a generation. WWIV will be genocide, WWIII will primarily serve to make WWIV inevitable.

Unpopular opinion: Considering the fully automated luxury space communism Bashir has spent his whole life in, this is actually an incredibly tone-deaf thing for him to say. (Which is in character for early-seasons’ Bashir, TBH. c.f. his introduction to Kira in the pilot.)

The writers intended a moral objection to preventable human suffering, but actually wrote the 24th century equivalent of “let them eat cake”.

This happens occasionally when they’re discussing the past in Star Trek. I’m reminded of some season 2 episode where they’ve lost power or whatever during an emergency and Pulaski tells them to make some splints. One doctor responds “that isn’t medicine, that’s barbaric” which gives me the same vibes.

I don’t think the writers intended this, but it does give us a reminder that people always view the past through the lens of the present and it can be easy to dismiss or disparage the way people have lived throughout time.

Bones makes a similar, albeit accurate, comment in ST4. When they 1980’s doctors are about to drill into Chekov’s head to relieve pressure, and with the old lady on kidney dialysis

Yep, we’re a little later than anticipated but hey if that still means some redneck is gonna invent warp drive out of the ashes of society in about 40-50 years I’m here for it.

Strange New Worlds purported in “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” that certain events tend to happen regardless of interference and are merely delayed. It’s a sliver of hope, but I’ll take it.

I like the premise that the series “11-22-63” set up. Where reality does not take kindly to time travel shenanigans, and the more significant something is, the more the actual environment works against you to keep the timeline the same.

You’re hoping that (canonically) there is a global thermonuclear war that wipes out most of civilization (including yourself), killing millions of innocent people and children, so that the post-war rednecks build a starship in a nuke silo?

It’s one of those unfortunate, but necessary steps that brings humanity out of its teenage angst stage and into post scarcity Federation territory.

Okay, great. Can you please start with yourself first? The rest of us will figure it all out without you.

I’ll admit that I should be a better person, but then, this is also a shitpost themed around wanting a better future for all. We won’t all get to experience the fruits of said labor, most certainly myself.

No, no, no. You need to edit your comment and change the “I should” to “you should”, and “myself” to “yourself” to address me and anyone else reading, not you. Because you are an ACTUAL good person.

    World War Greed.

Rich people have ALREADY won and poor people (everywhere) lose AGAIN!

Where is the government when you need it.
