[a really cool looking character sits on a chair in prison gear, smiling smugly, sunglasses on their face]

[next to them, their lawyer pleads their case]
Yes your honor,
he did kill twenty orphans
But if you look at him,
he looks really chill

[at their desk, a judge looks really happy and slams their hammer]
Damn right he’s got
GREAT VIBES
Innocent ! Case dismissed !

[a crowd of numerous vaguely human shapes is celebrating]
Once again, justice has prevailed.
A great public celebration ensues.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Sure, my client did some bad shit, but remember how cool he looked in Pirates of the Caribbean?”

A lot of the rest of the world doesn’t have juries, their decisions are just as vibes based as judges, if not more when it comes to race and gender issues. That’s why you have those weird defenses that begin with “sure my client might have raped multiple women, but his friends love him and he makes people smile at work”.

Not saying juries are a bad thing, it’d be nice to have them where I live, but on their own they’re not an answer to this issue.

(the comic was meant as more of a metaphor about social justice issues instead of a literal judge thing though)

Nah, he looked better in “dead man” and gilbert grape. 😁
