I’m sure some people would be interested, but I just can’t imagine a lot would find the idea of living in the metaverse appealing, even if it’s forever.
That’s not my point. Do you really think would people want to live out the rest of their existence in a digital space under the dictatorship of some power-hungry billionaires? If they can even be arsed to do anything, they’d most likely abandon it after a few years (just like what’s happening to the metaverse and every other similar online space already) leaving you spending your days in a literal void.
If it promised immortality I can garuntee you people would be lining up to use it.
Depends on the type of immortaility. Lena style? Maybe not.
Not so sure about that actually
You’re telling me that if someone invented a fountain of youth nobody would be interested?

Giving full control to some nutjobs…
Take a look at Meta’s social media market share; people don’t give a shit about their data.

If anything they’d just shut it off, killing any consciousness trapped in the simulation.
But my point is I think you underestimate the amount of people who would bw interested regardless of all the negatives.
Maybe I still have too much faith in humanity, but no, I don’t think I underestimate the amount.
