Yeah I’m leaning on that way as well. I’m not big on these heroic gore festival movies. I’m glad a Finnish movie was successful internationally, but probably not my thing. I might watch it in the next 15 years.

Theres a sort of Finnish flavor to it. Just like theres grit, then theres Aussie grit. Its kind of difficult to put into words, “grit” is just a part of “sisu”, theres more to it.

Oh yeah! Vitutus is a great word indeed. I should have used that one lol.
Ismo Alanko Säätiö has a song called Vittu Kun Vituttaa, I would have linked a youtube link here but youtube thinks its age-inapproriate and demands a log in. So I recommend you find it on your preferred music service, https://lyricstranslate.com/en/vittu-kun-vituttaa-fuck-im-so-pissed.html

I haven’t seen that one. Heard its good fun.

Sisu. Its a mix of courage, determination, resilience, keeping your nerve, doing a scary or difficult thing even though you know that odds of succeeding are low. Its also done quietly, no complaining or boasting about it. You can mutter some curse words quietly to yourself.
Closest English word for it might be “guts” or “grit”. But those don’t really explain it completely.
Finnish.

Are you suggesting that people shouldn’t have opinions about others, just because they make things? Grow up.

Yes this dumdum misread the thing completely lol

Yeah I know. But I don’t like to recommend just random topics, because when I do, I’ve noticed that people just go “oh wasn’t interested in that” so I’d rather ask a bit about what topics and time periods people might be interested in, before recommending.
And to be clear, I don’t really have a specific book or books in mind that radicalized me. It happened by reading tens, or a hundred, books in the period of 10-15 years. So in that I can’t give a recommendation, other than, just start reading about stuff. Start with something you wanted to know, wanted to know more about or were interested in, then during reading that thing, note down anything else that comes to mind that might interest you. Either something the book mentioned or something that popped in your mind randomly. Then get a book about that thing. Repeat.
That’s how I got sunk into this hole of reading about history. I just go “huh, what’s that about?!” and proceed to find out. /r/askhistorians subreddit has a excellent reading list in their wiki, its sorted into periods and topics, easy to search. That’s a good place to start.

Oh I misread it lol, apologies.

Huh, I would have thought that this would be a wildly popular opinion on this platform.
I guess we hang around in different communities lol

Ah, that’s not really a thing here. Sometimes they do zip through the traffic, but we don’t really have a standstill traffic jams too often and when we do, the mopeds sort of just hang in the traffic, being stuck with everyone else.
I guess we are a bit German in that sense.

2 stroke engines as means of transport for teenage boys.
What? No, of course that gathering of mopeds 150m from my apartment building isn’t affecting my unbiased opinion on this.

Yeah it puts things in perspective. Sadly, lately the perspective has been “this is awful and things will become even more awful for the next decade or two at least. Probably more.”
