Programming@programming.dev•What is the best moderation system for a social platform?
1·3 months agoI think we can most agree that while “best” may be relative Disourse is definitely better than StackOverflow in regards to moderation system.

Programming@programming.dev•How would you design online communities so they don't degenerate over time?
1·3 months agoSorry, I couldn’t understand that moderation system. I’ve made a post about moderations systems here.

Programming@programming.dev•How would you design online communities so they don't degenerate over time?
2·3 months agoI don’t get it, could you expand on that? The idea I’m getting is something like “flairs” on Reddit that people vote on. Right now I’m thinking since all posts will probably be tagged thanks to booru-style collaborative curation, people could vote on the tags that are subjective to see which tags apply best to the post. Then we could sort based on some of the tags like the ones you mentioned.

1·3 months agoI already added community forking but it copies all the users, I’ll have to see how I can make the forker change the spirit of the new community.

Programming@programming.dev•How would you design online communities so they don't degenerate over time?
5·3 months agoI think it might help to have different vote types. Instead of up and downvotes there could be things like agree/disagree, insightful, funny, quality shitpost, high/low effort post or things like that. That way people who want to see quality discussion could sort by insightful, while people looking for low effort shitposts or memes could sort by something else.
Slashdot moderation system, I like it, I’ll see how it fits.

3·3 months agoGood thinking. The tenure wasn’t gained when idle and was lost at 5% per week after a month of inactivity, but I like using the same trust system I had designed for the platform for each community as well.

Programming@programming.dev•How can I do blog to epub on Manjaro Linux or Firefox?
1·11 months agoI recently learned about abogen and audiblez and what I want to do is blog to adiobook but I’m still stuck in getting the book from the blog.
I’m now thinking maybe c/linux would have been a better place to ask since I’m not trying to program anything. Let me know if I should move it there.

Programming@programming.dev•Best Tool and Layout for Learning Touch Typing on Linux?
5·1 year agoHonestly, I believe that, except for Russians or anyone whose language isn’t derived from Latin, using a US keyboard for programming is best, because you won’t be missing many keys. Maybe the French will miss the
ç, but you can learn the Unicode just like I did with the em dash and quotation marks:- Em Dash (—):
U+2014 - En Dash (–):
U+2013
Quotation marks:
- Left double quote (“):
U+201C - Right double quote (”):
U+201D - Left single quote (‘):
U+2018 - Right single quote (’):
U+2019

31·1 year agoOr use systems timers
systemd timers? Isn’t that dependent on whether or not there is systemd? I thought there were Linux distros that don’t use it.

2·1 year agoMine too but I don’t want to spend the time adapting it for every thing I use so I’m willing to compromise.

4·2 years agoIn an auditorium with everyone shouting you don’t get to hear anything. In Twitter you get to see what you want instead of what most people want like on reddit and Lemmy. I much prefer that to other people deciding for me. At least that way I can see something other than shitposts and US politics.

Thanks, the third option is what I had in mind but I had completely missed the automated banning feature, reviewing manually each time probably wouldn’t scale well.
