18·12 days agoA number of drugs that are considered illegal in a large percent of the world do less damage to your body than alcohol, and at reasonable dosages have proven to have positive effects.
There have been a number of more recent studies disproving the previous myths of alcohol ever having a positive effect.
Remember when we had to have a secondary nvidia GPU just to play games?
Remember all of the fucky hacks, install orders, and workarounds we needed to make it work when our main GPU was an AMD card?
Or when it was leaked for the 3rd time that nvidia was paying devs to make their game run worse on AMD hardware?

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Where my klitoris users at?English
3·18 days agoPersonally, I wasn’t allowed to own a computer until well after Bleem! went out of business (from running out of money for legal defence against sony).
That being said, looking at wikipedia, Bleem! started first, so PCSX was the one that stole the look and feel of Bleem!
Yeah, I have also struggled with the way slskd handles its config file.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Where my klitoris users at?English
19·18 days agoYeah, its a fun one, but it does have a logical reason.
PSX was the codename for the PS1, and what the internet community latched on to, especially after the PS2 came out and there needed to be clarity on which they were referring to.
One of the early PSX PC emulators decided to name themselves PCSX as an amalgamation of PC and PSX.
PCSX2’s team wanted to make a PS2 emulator on par with/inspired by (and maybe forked off of?) the PS1 emulator and decided to continue the naming convention.
And now we have the dislexia-unfriendly PCSX2 name.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In your opinion is reading War and Peace the same accomplishment as listening to the audiobook? Why or why not?English
2·19 days agoFor me, personally, it isn’t at all, as I will have absorbed about 5% of the information I would have with a book.
But then again, I have some sort of ADHD related audio processing issue, so my opinion on audio books doesn’t count.

As a D5, I wonder if it would roll a lot of, or very few 1’s.
And if the answer was ‘a lot’ I wonder how many dice companies would make the peak a 5.
To add to this, several factors can cause birth control to fail, including being overweight (doctors basically never bother to prescribe an increased dosage, and insurance generally won’t cover it anyways), mixing with certain other medications/supplements, eating a lot of grapefruit, etc.
Hell, pretty sure alcohol fucks with it too.
Modrinth rehosts a lot of mods/modpacks without permission, and has on multiple occasions posted completely broken versions of modpacks.
The FTB team still sucks though, they get real pissy when you mention Prism ‘because mod authors dont get ad revenue’ if you don’t use their bloatware that requires spyware to run (fuck overwolf).

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•‘Zara death pants’: are these the world’s most dangerous trousers?English
7·1 month agoUh, you are aware that until recently, skirts actually had a hem, a removable/replaceable section of cloth at the bottom, specifically meant to touch the ground so a woman’s feet weren’t visible, right?
There are also entire cultural/religious outfits that to this day still touch the ground that are worn daily.
Just because its not a common sight where you are doesn’t mean it isn’t a thing any were else.
I had a cat that took a bit out of every bun in a 12 pack, through the bag.
Fucker didn’t even eat the bites, he just took out the chunk and spat it out on the floor.
Then again, this is the cat that would pull cat grass out of the other cat’s mouths to try and find the treat they were clearly eating, and get upset he suddenly had a mouthful of grass.

3·1 month agoYeah, I can’t think of anything I need windows for that doesn’t also need a real GPU to be useful.
And even then its only really 1 game, setting up looking glass was as much for tinkering amusement than actual use.

4·1 month agoIf you are on a desktop, there is always the option of throwing a GT 1030 in the secondary pcie slot and jumping through the 100 hoops to get Looking Glass set up.
Windows can’t fuck the bootloader if you lie about its HDD access.

Somewhat, for me its because its (supposed to be) a set and forget system, and when i wanna see what’s new I just open jellyfin to check.
