They were GUTTED to lose, they looked broken and one player was crying. Hockey is Canada’s most famous sport, and their roster was jaw droppingly good. USA haven’t won in decades but beat them mainly due to having a truly amazing goalie. When they got their silver they were embarrassed, upset, and got given consolation stuffed toys. McKinnon (one of the greatest players playing) looked at his like he wanted to stab it.

1·4 months agoGood point. Ads weren’t anything like as constant as they are now, everything was less commercial and more authentic. I do miss the format as well, but I’d forgo the format if I could lose the constant problems

I loooooved online debating back in the day you used to really get interesting and diverse conversations, they’d go on for pages and have a range of perspectives. On a good board you’d have well reasoned and well sourced arguments, and really learn a lot. All that’s gone and sadly I don’t see it coming back
Yep I had a proper online friendship group and a real community on message boards. It’s waayyy better on lemmy than Facebook or reddit but still not quite there
Yes, this format is quicker. It’s quick responses to quick topics, and you don’t get the in depth ongoing conversations. Back in the day you used to get really interesting, ongoing debates, I’ve not seen one of those ONCE in this format.

They really did! 42 shots on goal at that level is incredible and they gave it everything from the moment the puck dropped. Losing a well played game to dirty players like Tkachuk has gotta hurt.
