I saw this Black Mirror episode…
Where would the front(s) be? Seems like in USA CW 1.00, the north/south division made it easy to figure out where the enemy was. Nowadays, the ideological disagreement is much more geographically woven everywhere, with a battlefront possibly existing between every couple of houses in some neighborhoods.
Meanwhile all those nascently pathological conservakids were quietly taking notes on how docile all the decent and kind kids were learning to be so they could later be confounded and exploited by fully-matured conservative assholery in adulthood.
You’re from Alaska, too??!
Many service members are in the same position and depend on Uncle Sam to pay their bills (and, ya know, to stay out of jail for derelicion of duty or insubordination)…hence why it might be a tad difficult to “remember their oath” and stand up against vaguely illegalish orders, which might morally preserve their soul, but crushes their ability to live. Only bringing this up because of comments in other posts related to the NG and USMC in LA, but I see a close parallel of maliciously manufactured helplessness to self-advocate.
This sets a really dangerous precedent. I mean, what’s to stop this from happening to any other elected official? Like, if something like this could happen to a SENATOR, what’s to stop it from happening to a vice president or even president?
Nah, I get that exposed flesh isn’t always comfortable or safe and the practical solution is to just steal the skin of some other animal (or convert crude oil into super soft knit fabrics). I’m just of the personal mindset that if someone is comfortable enough in their own skin that they are completely fine going about their business in the buff, that the rest of society shouldn’t lose its shit and just be like, “k whatever u do u naked person wear sunblock.”
This is a case where every other organism on earth, except for maybe the junk bug, looks at humans with a confused air of disdain. Like, why did you manufacture this intractable problem by mandating clothing and shaming nudity in the first place?
That’s always been the tragedy for me personally. I absolutely loved the fuck out of SpaceX and what it was doing. It was the shining ray of hope for tech nerds like me hoping to work in a cool industry reminiscent of the 60s space race. And then Musk got on Twitter and got seriously weird and just never stopped.
As a reality television show for watchers unaffected by any outcomes, it’s a masterpiece. For the psychoneurotic main actors it must be exhilarating. For all the extras it’s a special kind of hell where most of the tunnels just lead to more darkness and uncertainty.
Continuum is a tidy lil show addressing this, too. Actually, not so tidy, a bit of a mess. But still entertaining and intriguing at times.
While I admire your passion, I’d love to see you broaden your perspective and capacity for nuance. You might be surprised at the diversity of thought found among the cadet and officer corps of the US military. If a strong resistance to fascism were to materialize, some of these officers may prove to be the best associates and allies. Lumping them all into the genocidal bigot bin would probably be a misstep for the long term subversive civilian element.
Tell me more about your knowledge of service academy cadets and midshipmen and their personally-held beliefs. Do you work at or near a service academy? How many interactions with cadets have you had in your lifetime? Curious to know why you believe them to be so bigoted.
The cadets that graduated this May enrolled four years ago under a different administration, for what it’s worth.
Sorry, my intent was to apply the label of “regulator” to the publicly elected officials and ghouls controlling the course of this legislation (i.e. regulating society). I are engineer, so sometimes I mix my lingo and analogies.
The floodwaters can only be dammed so long before breaking free. Whether that happens via controlled release of pressure or a disastrous blow out is up to the people with the regulatory power. Their failure to address the tide can only end in their painful ruin. For their sake, they better have fast legs if they don’t grow some hearts.
I like how contemporary is more modern than modern.
Wasn’t that a Simpsons episode? Wait, no, that was a rocket launch. Which is really ironic now that I think about it because even if it’s something as cool as a rocket launch, if it’s SpaceX, I will instantly change the channel or avert my eyes because fuck that asshole.
To whom are you conveying these instructions?
If The Cranberries songs and music videos I’ve seen are any indication, that sounds like a horrible situation.
