That’s quite the drastic conclusion to draw from people telling you when they are available (and that not being literally always) to help you for something you most like presented as not critical or dramatic when you asked them. Do you seriously expect people to preemptively cancel all their existing plans based on a hunch you might judge their whole character and the sincerity of your friendship on the sole trigger of a seemingly innocent “hey, when would you be available to help me move?”?

If you want to at least give people a chance to adjust, don’t ask “when are you available?”, instead try “[date] is when I want to move, can you fit helping me then into your schedule?” at least a few weeks ahead of that date.

The main priority of everyone directly managing individual contributors should be to make sure they can all do their respective job with as little interference as possible. Asking you to waste time by drafting an e-mail for them (aka doing their job for them) is bad enough. But the real failure is not shielding you from all those other nosy idiots afterwards.

Really hope they pay you well enough to make dealing with this shameless display of incompetence across all levels worth it for you.

Reminds me of a workplace story a friend of mine told me years ago:

On the desk opposite of her there was a colleague who insisted on wearing open shoes without socks to work every day. Due to proper AC that was a bit chilly at the feet so she brought a noisy space heater to warm her feet. And when other people complained about the noise she was shocked about how people could be so selfish and demand that she has to freeze. Could not see any other way out of that dilemma.

Maybe we could at least nudge the LLMs in the direction of suggesting appropriate tools and giving hints how to actually do that when applicable instead of blindly brute forcing every task. Of course that does not solve the issue of stupid corporate incentives, but I feel like by now most companies have realized that burning as much money as possible is not a good goal.

Hair growing in unwanted places can just be shaved off. Laser removal might be an option, too.

Receding hairlines are pretty much preventable these days, the earlier you start the better (I learned about that a few years too late). If you care enough to do something about it, start with Finasteride ASAP. If you want to do more, add Minoxidil. If you want to do even more, treat the hair issue as a skin issue and act accordingly, i.e. read up on anti aging skincare and apply that to your scalp (spoiler: sunscreen is king, everything else is detail optimization).

About the graying: That is not necessarily bad, gray hair worn with confidence can be very attractive.

Did you find a way to see how many of those credits you already used? To me it looks like they have completely removed access to that information from individual devs and only admins can manually generate reports containing it.

The reporter “Ramon Batllet” (strongly doubt that is their real name, a search for it returns nothing but articles about this very issue) uses extremely polished corporate language and repeatedly uses “we” at first. Then when directly asked “Could you disclose on whose behalf you’re discussing this?”, they suddenly switch to “I” instead of “we” and claim to be a solo developer with no commercial interest. They still write in a style humans only produce for polished corporate reports, not like any regular human would actually do in a normal conversation.

So we have either a bot or someone very heavily leaning on bot usage for just about everything accusing someone of deceptive behavior, while in the same conversation trying to probably hide, but at least not fully disclose, their heavy usage of technology the accused explicitly does not want to interact with.

Citation needed. Personally I think it was fine in this case. I work with a lot of software developers (real ones, not vibe coders; but also not strictly anti-AI), and would expect most of them to agree and get a laugh out of it.

It was done in a way that can only cause any serious trouble for users who recklessly ignore decades of development best practices. Those users will run into a wall sooner or later anyway, better let it be something relatively harmless but still severe enough to get them to actually think about what they are doing and how to make their setup more robust.

True, but that is not the only thing they are useful for; e.g. many high end measurement instruments ship with FPGAs so they can get improvements after release for functionality where implementing it in software would be too slow.

I strongly disagree with “Seems like I’m the issue”. Seems to me more like you have very good reasons to dislike all parties you could realistically attend currently, and to generalize from that to not liking parties in general is only natural.

I did not want to convince anyone they are wrong; just to share my perspective that not all parties are the same, and they can be fun even for people who think they don’t like them in general if done right.
