This post was made by internet explorer. You can’t buy any mac with over 4864 gb of unified ram. Suddenly the 96gb gfx card that you could stack 4 off is winning

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•A software developer's wife asked him to get a gallon of milk from the store
301·28 days agoNo - he was asked to bring 1 or 12, not 1 and 12

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst part about getting older that young people don't know about?
29·1 month agoHumans adapt. We have abysmal bandwidth, so we have adapted. If anything is normal you don’t notice. You reserve bandwidth for the unexpected. You already know how to react and what to do/feel regarding daily life.
Break rhythm

Technology@lemmy.world•AI costs spike as subscriptions hit pricing wall — firms turn towards Chinese LLMs, open-source models to extend budgetEnglish
21·2 months agoTwo different products. One is bundled with other users and you can only get so much within a timeframe without optimising.
The other is what you want when you want it.
I’d expect the costs for these products to differ
What if being kinda pretty is like the first meth pipe in our society? Like that the rush that complements you get can get you hooked?
Now firs of all sorry for necroposting, but i found this while searching. I use claude amd markdown/yaml and serena mcp. We use tmux and shard browser to gather facts. As a bonus i can explain my setup and choices and it will format out nicely

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•rsync is being vibe coded now. We are so cooked.English
583·3 months agoAlso it’s foss. You f you dont like what the maintainers are doing, fork and move on.
But complaining shows nothing but self entitlement. Let the devs do what they want, or pay them

103·3 months agoGreat - old vulnerabilities are the best! If you actually forked and maintained it you could survive. But pinning an old version is worse than slop imo

165·4 months agoYeah - if you’re after AI fanbois you should head over there. They’re not that bright, but if you check show and tell you can see what claude’s been ut to last two days

Programming@programming.dev•I just tried vibe coding with Claude
1·4 months agoNo sry. I only use idf, and use their create vscode files for lsp to work
And tmux + skills for idf.py work including debug. Also repl on console/uart - agents love cli - including this.
Imo mcp > pure skills for tmux

7·4 months agoRough estimate from my personal connections only. Some work places where ai is not possible, but all that have made an effort report good code. You need to work with what it is - a word generator that sometimes gives correct results. Make it research and not trust training. Never let it do things on its own, require a plan and reason. Make it evaluate its own work/plan.
Most issues i have stem from models beeing too eager. Restrain them and remove the “i can do this next…”behaviour.
Context is king - so proper mcp and documentation that is agent facing. I use serena as i can get lsp for yaml, markup and keep these docs like that

Opensource@programming.dev•Two different attackers poisoned popular open source tools - and showed us the future of supply chain compromise
15·4 months agoDev-ops where compromised.
Where they believe pulling in new releases without vetting into your environment is good practice…?
We dont even patch windows without vetting…. Why do you do that in your dev env???

Programming@programming.dev•I just tried vibe coding with Claude
1·4 months agoIn my view it’s about quality and not quantity of the AGENTS/CLAUDE.md
My experience is that starting with what i dont want and the what i do works best. «never rely on training for API documentation, use context7» «don’t use ls/find/grep for symbols, use serena»
Not the best examples, but but.

95·4 months agoI do apps that work, i do patches that are production quality. Half the cs world does… I do full stack ai debugging of esp32 projects.
It’s a powerful tool, you just need to learn it’s strong and weak points, just like any other tool you use.

Technology@lemmy.world•Lenovo Cuts the Windows Tax and offers Cheaper Laptops with Linux Pre-installedEnglish
3·6 months agoIt’s not about licensing costs at least. Cheap laptops with office and other bloat, and windows home is probably under usd10 per laptop.
But hardware requirements are a huge difference and with the ram shortage…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People with the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap: What do you mean by "Cilantro tastes like soap"? In what way does anything taste like soap?
3·6 months agoIt tastes like metal to me - not soap
Lol if only it was that simple. No the answer is red blue paint.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Installing **self-hostable** services on a cloud server isn't self-hosting ???English
151·7 months agoImo it’s hosting stuff for yourself or your family. In cloud or closet. If you have an advanced nas and you set up shares so everyone in the house can use it, it’s self-hosted storage. If you set up an iCloud account its not. If you rent vps, manage firewalls and reverse proxies and host your stuff there it’s selfhosting. If you use digital ocean or aws and do it for yourself its selfhosting. Saas isnt self hosting

I see i can still order 96gb, for about 100k nok. That money would give me 2x dxg sparks - although with lower memory bandwidth - but 128gb each. And you don’t need ram for gui etc.
So 4 sparks can load deepseek r1 or v3 in nvfp4 and have have about 4kTops
For MoE this is acceptable, for dense it ism’t. Not sure how it fares on diffusion models.
They was kings when they had 256 and 512 versions but they stopped that this spring
