Art is about analyzing the questions, design is about analyzing the solutions. Many engineers I’ve met get wrapped up in the process and fail to address the actual issues.
This guy is the textbook example. His projects always go down deadends and lose scope. He would definitely be better off with some CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) before he runs off to his CNC mill with a $200 block of aluminum.
In Canada we call it STEAM now. Because where the hell do you think design comes from?
2·22 days agoYou’re trying to use a big, high tech machine to make it. I’m talking about using a coping saw. Quite different approaches.
Material Arts and Design is a conglomeration of many disciplines. Often textiles, jewelry, ceramics, sometimes glass blowing and furniture making. You are way over thinking this. This would be a fun colab. They’re not even regular hexagons. They look like they were made with felt sheets.
A textile geek could have this back to you before lunch using stuff found in the scrap pile.
And looking closely at it, that’s exactly how it was made.
