Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it expensive to withdraw cash abroad or using currency exchanges upon traveling?
6·12 days agoThe term tourist traps come to mind.
Many vendors and machines will charge exhorbitment rates and disguise them throughout the transaction.
Depending on how much cash you need, perhaps order the money from your local bank.
Check if the country you’re visiting supports a major credit card. If they do you can get cards that don’t charge a surcharge ontop of the exchange rate.
That way you can be charged in the local currency of the region and not worry about it.
Also check the travel advisories for wherever you’re going and carry a false wallet with some petty cash and bs cards.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do today if today was your last day?
2·26 days agoTidy up and prepare my stuff for family to take over.
Write some letters to people I care about. It would be too hard to speak with them.
It’s too late in the day to fly anywhere fun, so I’d just watch my anime collection until the lights turned off.
They are a common wedding gift in some rural communities.
But I don’t have one yet.

1·2 months agoYeah it’s the online component effected by the anticheat.
It used to work last year but they block Linux now.
I upgrade my computer either when it’s not working as desired or I come into some extra cash and wanna treat myself to a boost.
Sadly with the new memory and storage costs I’ll probably ride this system out for ~10 years. (I pray she survives that long)

5·2 months agoThose driver tools are often bundled with malware and do a poor job validating what they download is safe and correct. They are often associated with services that crawls the internet for downloads and tries to match the hardware id.
Generally, drivers are available from the motherboard or device manufacturer page. That said it’s rarely the solution and for your gpu (amd or Nvidia) they already have their own tool for keeping you up to date.
But with Linux most of that is taken care of for you by either the kernel itself or your distro’s maintainer.
Most games work fine on Linux and may only require small tweaks. You can check the games you’re interested in playing on protondb. http://www.protondb.com/
The notable exceptions are games with aggressive anticheat software. Such as but not limited to (EA games, PubG, Fortnite, GTA5)
If you’re looking for something “easy” look into Kubuntu LTS.
