Well, that’s not the shitty part. I’m not saying that this is going to replace how we use the internet, but the idea behind it is intriguing.

First off, you are not pathetic, the world is depressing. And just having the intent to do this is a great start. Be kind to yourself, no one else can do that for you.
The first thing to do is forget all of those grand ideas about having a giant garden with all sorts of produce. Even if that is your end goal, don’t think about that! It will only demotivate you, because it seems so far away from where you are now.
The second thing to do is go to your local library and get some books about gardening. The simpler the better, is they have gardening books for kids then start with those.
Read those books. Take some easy examples, like herbs, lettuce, or garlic. Start small, and don’t overdo yourself. Try to enjoy what you are doing, and stay with the present task. Don’t push yourself immediately to do more.
Let that enjoyment be your guide. If you can focus on feeling good about what you are doing, then the rest will come without effort.
I don’t agree with the assumption that any of the LLMs are super intelligent. They aren’t even close to actual human intelligence, and most real-world experience has shown that they are best used as a tool, like a graphing calculator.
We are also a long way off from a fully automated industry. The energy required for a fully staffed AI workforce is staggering, the current usage of AI isn’t even sustainable, let alone powering millions of physical bots plus the AI needed for piloting them.
This is a great article!

Linux@programming.dev•Linux and open source getting age checking exemptions could be problematic
5·3 months agoThe author is not in favor of DRM or age verification on linux. They are simply pointing out the implications of the proposed exemptions. The real problem is that these sort of invasions of privacy are being considered AT ALL. Nomatter how they are implemented, they will be horrible for everyone except big brother.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•What Does Royal Honey Do Sexually? My Experience and QuestionsEnglish
12·3 months agoThis is a meme community. You will probably have better luck at asklemmy or one of the other advice communities.
That being said, I highly doubt that consuming royal honey will affect your sex life. This reeks of snake oil.
I agree, it was almost like reading an onion or postillion article. So surreal.
Hot take: this article is capitalist propaganda. “owning a giant company is better than being a wareslave” No shit, sherlock.
The cannabis plant when left to itself doesn’t create much THC (which is what gets you high), but it is very useful for making rope and clothing, as well as oil and other products. Only when you make sure that you only have female plants (and take care of them in a certain way) do they produce lots of THC.
So just because the plant is growing somewhere doesn’t mean that someone is smoking it.

Linux@programming.dev•Debian Project Leader Addresses New Age Verification Laws
7·4 months agoI agree that that solves some problems, 100%. But I’ve seen the downward slide of society take hard-fought civil rights away for several decades now. It’s never a sudden process, it always starts small and then slowly grows.
This is just the beginning, and it should be fought against with tooth and nail now, not just postponed so that we have to deal with this issue once the fascists already have some momentum.

Linux@programming.dev•Debian Project Leader Addresses New Age Verification Laws
52·4 months agoThat does nothing to address the issue. What happens when the requirement is adopted elsewhere? Just keep excluding territories?
It seems like a simple fix, but this would play right into the hands of the corporate overlords. And California is not some tiny state.
If California were an independent nation, it would rank as the fourth largest economy in the world in nominal terms, behind Germany and ahead of Japan.

Linux@programming.dev•I saved a doomed Windows laptop by embracing Linux
4·5 months agoYes, that’s exactly how RPM works. it’s supposed to be a last resort if options like distrobox or homebrew can’t deliver what you need. It can break stuff if you are not careful.
Anyway, then I’d definitely go with silverblue.

Linux@programming.dev•I saved a doomed Windows laptop by embracing Linux
6·5 months agoSilverblue is what I’m putting on my partner’s older PC, the fact that it atomic is a big plus-point.
Be warned though, some less common non-cli packages are more difficult to install. If your SO needs something along those lines, mint may be better.
For example, nordVPN has a nice GUI interface, but it has no appimage or flatpak, so it won’t work on silverblue without modifying the ostree. That’s not a good idea, so on my (bazzite) PC I have installed a simple openVPN GUI package, and set it up to use our nordVPN account. It works fine, but it’s not a pretty map-based interface, just a giant list of servers.

This is crazy. I wonder if I could then install waydroid, then Linux in that, then waydroid again…
