  • I’ve done the on prem design. I’ve migrated people entirely to the cloud. I specialize a little in between.

Without any shred of doubt the cloud is going to be more cost effective than self hosting for 99% of all use cases. They’re priced that way intentionally. You cannot compete with Cloudflare/AWS/GCP/Vultr/Akami/Digital Ocean/etc.

My homelab isn’t about scaling, production workloads and definitely isn’t accessible to anyone but me. I’d argue using it in any other way defeats the purpose and shows a lack of understanding.

  • There are three critical parts to an apology. You have to feel regret/remorse, accept guilt and make an effort to correct it/make sure it never happens again.

If all three aren’t present every time then someone isn’t sorry. If they say sorry and don’t make it right or make reasonable actions to ensure it doesn’t happen again then they are a liar and poor company to keep.

  • That’s not the point. Its unprofessional. Someone is going to smash and grab OPs idea and actually have the skills to host it properly. Probably at a fraction of the cost because OP doesn’t understand that hosting SaaS products out of his house isn’t professional or effective.

Also; cloud is cheaper than self hosting at any small amount of scale. This wouldn’t cost much to run in AWS if built properly. The people who struggle with AWS costs are not professionals and have no business hosting anything.

  • SLAs?

You’re going to need a redundant ISP and a generator. You’ve left the territory where it’s economical to self host something if that’s what you’re looking at. You still have several other single points of failure.

And I’ll be honest, your setup isn’t ready for an SLA either. Just having a second machine is such a small part of what you need to do before doing any guarantees. Are you using a Dynamic DNS service? What’s the networking setup look like? Router to Compute?

From the sounds of it, you’re not a professional. It might be time to engage an expert if you want to grow this.

  • I voted for Harris, but I think that they’re missing the point. They needed to win over more people with their candidate. You still have to be popular and you don’t have a divine mandate because your opposition is intolerable.

I am a demographic Dems claim to champion, but I haven’t ever seen that support materialize. Somehow they never help me. I vote Dem because I like Rep less. I get not liking Dem as a party. I don’t like them either. This is very prevalent within my communities. It drives voter apathy and pushes moderates to the right. They’re viewed as incompetent in addition to being just bought and paid for as Reps.

They haven’t had a genuine primary in decades. They haven’t tried to connect with small-midsize cities in decades. They’ve completely failed to communicate with their average voters and that is THEIR job to do that. The last minimum wage increase was signed into law by Bush and then Dems sat on their thumbs for three terms. I do not accept “I tried.” I need a party that can win those battles. I’ve tried engaging with my local Democrats, but I get boilerplate responses. I’m fairly sure they’re all chatbots at this point.

And most importantly, it’s hard to root for a perpetual loser. Even when they win they still lose and can’t do anything. It’s never their fault. They just never do anything. I need someone intelligent enough to win. Dems don’t provide that.

They’ll get my vote until anyone else who isn’t a Rep/Fascist has a chance of winning and not a moment longer. It’s so wholly undemocratic that I have to choice between a Kleptocrat or a Fascist.
