It’s all about testing the waters and seeing what they can get away with.
It’s how abusive relationships work.

Yes, the domain name is an obvious point of failure when trying to maintain anonymity. It’s not enough to get WHOIS protection if the company you register the domain name with knows your identity.
It looks like njal.la allows anonymous domain name registrations, but they seem expensive and I’ve read reviews saying njal.la will revoke access without clear violations of their policies.

I won’t require identification on my instance.

Yes. We need to keep in mind that the real battle being fought here is market dominance.
Western companies and governments want to dominate so they can screw everyone else over harder than China would.

Consumers are sheep whether they’re on the left or right.
People on the left hate Tesla and Musk because of Musk’s politics instead of him being a conman colluding to keep EV prices high.

I use Aliexpress over Amazon whenever possible.
It’s insane the amount of scams going on on Amazon.

JD Vance won’t be better, but all of the people voting for the lesser evil should be punished for their incompetence.

I actually agree with him.
We need to stop letting the culture war distract us from the class war.

Something like this would only be necessary if there’s a lot of people that want to punish others for not recognizing same-sex marriage.

Lima beans’ existence doesn’t depend on other people recognizing they exists.
A better analogy would be nations’ sovereignty.

Western media is beholden to Israeli interests.

China learns to make better chips and Taiwan fades into irrelevancy.
Once they stop being valuable to the US, China will be able to take it for themselves with no effort if they desire.
I don’t have the energy to keep engaging with you, so I’m just going to downvote and move on.
Have a nice day.
Can you make your argument without resorting to inaccurate analogies? That way we can focus on the topic instead of getting derailed.
If you’re not making posts that the community members want to see, then they are justified in downvoting you so that they do their part to influence the culture of the community.
The fact that you’re only targeting downvoters and not upvoters leads me to believe you want to surround yourself with yes-men instead of authentic humans.
If you think 5 people downvoting you is what’s stopping your posts from gaining visibility, then you are simply incorrect. Lemmy is still very small and most communities that aren’t tech or politics aren’t “visible” because they lack activity.
And? Upvotes increase visibility.
Why is one bad but the other is acceptable?
It’s also not an issue in “smaller communities” because there’s not enough content to bury heavily-downvoted posts anyways.
People like Elon Musk and Donald Trump would love the power that China has over its citizens in online affairs.
They want to make it as normal as possible for people to identify themselves online so anyone who doesn’t stands out and it’s easier to pass laws to make privacy illegal.
Corporations like Discord are how oligarchs exert their will over the population, since they can’t always use the government directly (yet.)
