Maybe the real advertisement could be doing good and not trying to convince people they’re doing good.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who were some of your childhood heroes that turned out to be horrible people?
6·16 hours agoYou know what, I did and you’re right! Thanks for reminding me about how awesome he is. Grew up loving him, loved UHF, all that.
We went to a concert of his about 8 years ago and it was awesome. People of every walk of life; young, old, everything in between. Just a great positive vibe brought together by a fantastic show. He really went all out for it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies are constant failures but we can't stop trying to make work?
5·2 days agoThank you for helping educate on this. I live in the best time in history to have the cancer I have. I’ll be able to live a pretty full life with what would have been a steady decline into an immobile death, were this 30 years ago.

If he bought it and it was cold then he would have been a sucker. Glad he also did some quality control there.

Technology@lemmy.world•Scientists say quantum tech has reached its transistor momentEnglish
1·5 days agoYeah, understood. I was just saying that because it doesn’t seem technically possible now, don’t discount that it could be in the future. Whether it would be useful, that’s another debate. But I have a hard time believing it has practical uses. If it does though, the innovation will be rapid like the shift to silicon transistors (assuming it is even possible).

Counterpoint: they said the same thing when a computer was made of vacuum tubes and took up an entire room to add two digits.
You really don’t need uBO in Orion though. It has adblocking and zero-telemetry out of the box.
I’m right there with you and I totally forgot I used to have a library of self-written functions on a disk! It was like my secret little toolkit that nobody else had (and, looking back, probably shouldn’t have had).
You’re spot on that today, it’s 95% just putting together the large legos for yet another crud application. That’s fine I guess, keeps me employed. But it’s definitely more a commodity skill now. At this point in my career, I don’t really care.

You mean when the US had just invaded Iraq based on lies and greed for oil? Fabricated entirely from a bullshit “global war on terror”?
I do like highlighting things that have gotten better (and thank you for the thread), but rose-tinted glasses and all.

This mess is by design. They pay the manufacturers (a pretty penny, I’m sure) to put it on there.
