You can basically live indefinitely in the SEA with US passport (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia). Find a in a nice liberal bubble with loads of other foreigners as long as you can make 2,000 usd/mo you’ll be quite comfy and free here.
I’ve long given up on being part of the core society and embraced the life in a bubble. It’s pretty awesome! Feel free to message me if you have any questions :)
Lots of non-answers but to clarify - yes but no comments.
Sometimes a login wall might block you but if you refresh a couple of times it should work.
no invite and I’ve been on the waitlist since it’s been announced :(
That’s exactly what will happen.
which it has not and is not going to
So you’re confident that AGI is not fundamentally possible? That would contradict basically every single scientist in the world and this is exactly why this issue is so difficult. Ironically, proving my point for the OP’s question lol
That’s simply not true. All datacenters of the world (including crypto) only use 6% of our power.
Apple absolutely harms other companies to the point where are taken to court all the time.
There’s no such thing as “their own ecosystem”
That AI safety is much more important than AI hurting copyright or artists.
I say this because the “AI sucks haha” and “AI just steals” retoric is very harmful to AI safety movement as people just don’t believe AGI or even close-to-AGI will be capable enough to harm our society.
Currently many estimate that there’s 1-20% chance that AGI could end our civilization. So fuck the copyright and fuck the artists when we’re looking at ods like this we need to start preparing now even if it’s 10 years away.
But alas, nobody can’t think further out than the length of their nose and honestly I’m just hoping we’re lucky enough to be in that 80% because clearly we’re not going to do anything about it.
As someone who writes on Medium ocassionally — no.
Medium like all other blogging platforms has a problem of incentive. The pay is too little for quality writing and there’s always a gamble on whether your article gets views as you don’t control SEO or even formatting for that matter.
It was always filled with low effor slop because most are either:
I feel for Medium here as it does have an unsolvable problem really and AI has nothing to do with it.
My home garden. I’m by no means a great gardener but I’m a software developer working from home and just popping in there to spend 30 minutes caring for the plants is really refreshing.
They’re just jumping the newscycle for the propaganda machine. Russian government doesn’t care about tech or linux unless it can help them deliver more bombs to Ukrainian babies and you don’t need to fork the kernel for that.
The way Apple gets away with stuff makes me feel very conspiratorial. Like, how?
How is Apple getting a pass every time and my tin foil hat would say that they are protected by the US government. Maybe because it’s just an important corporation for the US economy but maybe it’s an important corporation for US spying too.
It’s incredible how long Apple has gotten a pass which makes me wonder why are they so protected.
I think Americans need to address the flaws in their 2 party political system and start working on a change, but it’ll never happen because neither party would give up power like that.
Two party system is inherently divisive especially with so much foreign and domestic propaganda. More options would not only reduce the total surface area of conflicts, but it would make propaganda much harder and represent people more closely.
ah you’re from .ml
, feel free to ignore my comment entirely. Didn’t want to ruin your day with non-extremist world views sorry.
100% this is not technology Russian citizens will ever see domestically. It’ll be some front for the propaganda machine.
People outside of US have the right to worry about this election as well imo. It’s one of many currently on-going battles of autocracy vs democracy and this election will heavily shape the battlefield.
I wish all of the luck to my American friends and really that’s all non-americans can do so I’ll just grab a joint and catch up on the new season of What We Do In The Shadows until this blows over.
One tries to make money by gathering data and targeting advertising to people intentionally addicted to a platform. The other is, you know… a blog.
but that’s not the issue in question. The issue is social media is introducing negative mental effects into teens life. Which we can all agree is true to some extent.
Now, how should we address this? Should we target specific elements like algorithmic timelines and lack of anti-bullying moderation which btw are 2 things that are scientifically proven here or we prohibit teens from accessing all social media even one that has no these harmful designs?
Do you see how this is just a shitty policy no matter how you look at it? It doesn’t prevent big corps from making a bank and does zero things to address the actual issue. It’s fucking stupid.
Reddit 100% was censoring and shadow banning any kbin or lemmy mentions.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if reddit actively promoted or even creates negative comments. There was a precedent of people abandoning Digg so they were clearly very aware and afraid.
At the end of the day it’s impossible to tell with these incredibly opaque networks. It’s even hard to confirm comment visibility as Reddit employs data fudging and shadow banning.
Just another reminder that nothing any closed source social media says should be trusted, ever.
