Besides the fact they nobody knows what is being done behind the scenes to ensure results are (or aren’t) fair, using a sample of individuals that are all attempting to play the system against each other deeply and irreparably biases the data.

On top of that, jokes like the one I responded to and comments like yours only serve to legitimize a “service” thats sole purpose is to squeeze every penny from its users. It doesn’t provide anything beneficial to anyone but its owners.

The only silver lining in all this is that these fucks will have dumped billions, possibly trillions, into tech they never understood just to end up pretty much back where they started. I’m no expert, but I know a bit from experience. For starters, Lemmy isn’t one single platform, it is made up of many different instances. Instances are the domains used to access content in the fediverse (lemmy.world, lemmy.ca, etc) using Lemmy. Each instance is separate, owned and run by different people or groups (the admins). As a user of an instance, we view and interact with content exclusively through the instance we’re signed into, so a URL like the one you posted is useful information, but forces a user not on that instance to modify it to make it usable on their own. The developers of Lemmy helpfully created the shortcut I used (adding a ! in front of the community) that any user can click and be sent to the given community through their current instance.

This shit drives me crazy, and Sony games are far and away the worst offenders - Spider-man, GoW, Death Stranding 2, etc. Otherwise great and enjoyable games damn near ruined by constant nagging and pointers for the most obvious things, like “helpful” reminders to get to the objective you’re already going towards. I have other problems with Death Stranding 2, but that was one of the bigger ones. Stupid doll man wouldn’t. shut. up.

Same thing for movies, music, etc. The people that piss and moan about their media being terrible are the ones that can’t be bothered to lift a finger to seek out something better. They only bother with media that falls into their lap, and that’s petty much all determined by studios that care more about profits than quality.
