Call me old fashion but the best system was and is good old forum. Posts and comments are order by posting date. No points, no bumps, just a regular timeline.
As for the lurkers, I still believe that removing Lemmy Social Score would cause more people to engage.
I can cook and I’m good at it, I know how to grow veggies, I know how to fix things, both mechanical and electrical/electronical. But the best skill I have is that I know how to spend time when wifi/power is down.
People who got addicted to social media failed in real life and are looking for a compensation in virtual life. They are looking for a validation from equally disturbed people, creating unrealistic online personas, follow empty shells, aka influencers and think of them selves as a godsend to humanity. On the other hand, people who don’t care about social media have a full, vivid lives, interesting hobbies and a group of loyal friends.
The reason for that is Lemmy Social Score, aka karma. Most of the people on the internet are looking for a validation from online randos and this prevents them from posting unpopular points of view. Hide score from the users and you will see way more posts and comments.
I can see it now. Sorry about being ambiguous. What I mean is that the first generation immigrants who were granted permanent residency or citizenship should be treated the same way as multiple generation citizens, including crime punishment.
What I meant was that the “minority” offenders that cannot be sent back should be charged the same way as the “majority” of the population. Sorry for the confusion.
Oh boy, I’m going to downvoted into oblivion for what I’m about to write. Here we go.
It will be about unchecked illegal immigration, so hang tight. First of all, everyone that’s trying to illegally cross borders should be sent back to the country of origin. Next, all permanent resident/citizen immigrants that break a law should be returned to a country of origin. On top of that all crimes should be treated equally, no matter who committed it.
edit
Forgot to add to the list. All illegal immigration advocates should be legally forced to host at least one immigrant in their house/apartment.
Mostly because of the amount of good quality content. But as I said, I’ve moved to radarr/sonarr so I interact with less and less.
There is this torrent site I use that likes to use javascript to redirect to various malicious websites on every single click. After reaching the desired amount of clicks, it start behaving like a normal, “legit” website. Just of out curiosity I checked few other torrent websites and got the same result. It got so annoying that I’m using radarr and sonarr to look for torrents.
I know what dns poisoning is but it usually happens on so called legit sites. Pirate sites serve you malware out of the box.
Somehow “legit” sites won’t try to install malware on my laptop. So, I take more regular ads over piracy crap.
Yes, I do. I’m a devops engineer and even “coding camp devs” have problems understanding what I do for a living.
I think you answered your own question. You asked about “retard”, not about R-word. Some snowflakes will get offended on behalf other people but normal people will just acknowledge rude language and move on.
If it’s a motivation issue, you will need to figure it out on your own. I could give you some advice but motivation depends on a specific use case. If you want I can share what motivates me but there’s no guarantee it will work for you.
As for getting back on a tech horse, there’s a trick I’ve been using every time I was learning a new thing and it worked every single time. I start with a project idea. I write down the major goals I want to achieve and start working on it. At first I do the “quick start” adjusted to fit my project. It usually ends up with a working proof of concept and a list of things I don’t know/understand. Next, I learn about the those unknowns and update the project with what I have learned. This raises more unknowns which leads to more things to learn about. After few iterations, when I’m happy about the project, I start a new, more complex project. And so on.
I use SMS and good old phone calls. You would be surprised how much people freak up when you call them. For work I use Slack, sometimes Teams. And on rare occasions, Messenger to talk to some family members.
edit Forgot about emails. I use it for more planned communications.
I wouldn’t say that majority of lemmy is communism supporters. But I would say lemmy if (far) left-wing biased. If you express valid, supported by science and statistic, opinion that’s not liberal enough you will still be called fascist, xeno/trans/homo/etc phobe. My advice, don’t a single f*** about it and keep open mind.
