politics @lemmy.world•Kamala Harris is to campaign in Michigan with Abdul El-Sayed
11·16 days agoFrom NBC:
Roxie Richner, a spokesperson for El-Sayed, told NBC News on Wednesday that “Abdul is thrilled to welcome Vice President Harris to Michigan for a conversation about improving Black maternal health and bringing down healthcare costs.”
Richner added: “He looks forward to hearing directly from Black women and healthcare providers and discussing how he’ll continue that work in the Senate. There’s no better choice for Michiganders than Abdul when it comes to making healthcare more affordable, and he’s grateful Vice President Harris will join him in spreading that message.”

15·17 days agoIt’s a temporary hold where Congress gets to ask for more info. You’re right that it’s informal and Trump doesn’t need their approval anyways.
Perhaps it’s enough to make him back off before the midterms.

And no, the CIA failing is not a good thing. Grok making targeting decisions with satellite photos and twitter consensus would be worse for a start.
The next democrat president is going to be left at most with just satellite photos and the depleted goodwill of allies that haven’t demolished their intelligence agencies.

5·20 days agoThe second part will never be abolished. Presidents need a way to advance national objectives while having deniability within and without.
Congress is of course failing to fucking check them on this. At best the Democrats can only send public letters expressing “severe concerns” about what they know.

37·1 month agoIgnoring the top education democrat too:
Bobby Scott, the top Democrat on the education committee, criticized the bill as unnecessary and potentially in conflict with first amendment protections of protest.
“No college or university has embraced the BDS movement anyway. So, we should combat antisemitism wherever it occurs, but we should not do so by punishing protected speech or conflating a student’s view with university policies,” he said. (The Guardian US House passes bill penalizing universities that participate in boycott of Israel)

3·2 months agoThe quote literally has a newspaper article from 1909 talking about jay walkers. Jaywalking may have been boosted by the auto industry but it wasn’t invented by them.

Wikipedia
While jaywalking is associated with pedestrians today, the earliest references to “jay” behavior in the street were about horse-drawn carriages and automobiles in 1905 Kansas: “jay drivers” who did not drive on the correct side of the street.[1] The term swiftly expanded to pedestrians, and by 1909, The Chanute Daily Tribune warned “The jay walker needs attention as well as the jay driver, and is about as big a nuisance.”

I think the issue is that they’re packaged in a little too powerful of a package. Not that they’re appropriately priced.
