Technology@lemmy.world•Google shuts down its Nobel-prize winning AlphaFold project as it focuses on GeminiEnglish
13·20 days agoSame thing with swapping to Gemini on the phone. First thing and only thing I asked for was to set a reminder alarm. But Gemini couldn’t talk to the clock app and refused. In the trash it went.

Privacy@programming.dev•YSK: There's a new initiative for hard-forking firefox and creating a "base browser"
18·20 days agoI just use Firefox and disable the AI. Every step further away from the source is just going to add bugs that i never want to see. All this posturing for feels with the second place browser isn’t going to stop Google from controlling the Internet anyway.
Yep switched to aegis a year ago. Works great.
I’m down, shit. I’ll do the veggie chopping as long as we skip eggplant.

politics @lemmy.world•Do Trans People Have “Stand Your Ground” Rights? Wyoming’s Answer May Be “No.”
22·2 months agoNo, I’m not saying that. What I am saying is that it doesn’t matter what the law says the current regime will twist it to their will. Not putting out gun restrictions just because you think that they will use it poorly is denying the fact that they use any law poorly.

312·2 months agoThat’s such a silly argument. You want to stop good legislation just because someone might use it wrong. Let me point out the entirety of government to you I guess?
It was my best attempt at a joke saying that the beast is a real person that will be coming for all the furries. Really hard to craft while remaining funny and not antagonistic but probably failed.
Real furry, fine
Pretend furries in fursuits? That’s the 2020’s version of blackface. Y’all are going to have a difficult time once the real furries get political representation

Linux@programming.dev•Ubuntu's "AI Kill Switch" Is Achieved By Removing Snaps, Initially Opt-In - Phoronix
1·4 months agoWell I need a distro that has documented active directory support to connect to the existing servers. Tried OpenSUSE which had problems just installing let alone running, so Ubuntu is really all there is left. Linux at work is just not as fully featured as Windows unfortunately. Local group policy servers are so useful.

2·4 months agoDoes that mean mint is going to be AI as well? I haven’t heard anything out of that project because I’m not paying attention, but it just seems inevitable.
Throw a dart at webcomics and you’re going to find a horny one more often than not. This is the genre.

I dunno, I kinda like the audacity of it not fitting anything else on my desk. If it were $10 and still as well shaded it could be my print screen key or something
