  • I am from Canada, and while the flag could go either way for me, mounties, even in their blood-red uniforms do turn my stomach. (Paintings by Kent Monkman, showcasing the “Sixties Scoop

Our past further back has not been much help.

In addition to the physical appropriation of land was the colonial effort to eliminate the transmission of cultural identity, traditional skills, and connection to the land. Beginning in 1883 (while this was the date of the first federally established church school, similar institutions existed as early as the 1830s, years before Canadian federation) Indian Residential Schools (IRSs) were established in Canada (as were American Indian Boarding Schools in 1862). Children were forcibly removed from their families and were institutionalized in IRSs with the explicit goal of ‘taking the Indian out of the child’. These mandated church-run IRSs endeavoured to save the souls of the ‘savages’ by immersing them in Euro–Christian beliefs and eradicating access to traditional socialization values, language, practices and ways of life. By the 1930s, roughly 75% of First Nations children attended IRSs, as did many Métis and Inuit children. The last of the IRSs was closed in 1996, but by then several generations of children had experienced the mistreatment that abounded in these institutions.

Then to really prove we could be as evil as everyone thinks we’re polite, we added this gem to our crown.

It is readily acknowledged that Indian children lose their natural resistance to illness by habituating so closely in the residential schools, and that they die at a much higher rate than in their villages. But this alone does not justify a change in the policy of this Department, which is geared towards a final solution of our Indian Problem.” -Duncan Campbell Scott to BC Indian Agent Gen. Major D. MacKay.

And there are those who say it is in the past, and everyone is crying over things from long ago, yet 1996 is not so long ago for Residential Schools, and our police deny any ongoing wrong-doings. I for one do not feel patriotism for our past, though I have some small hope for our future.

  • Two is “hey wait, I pay for everything and all you do is lie on the sofa and bitch that I’m not doing enough.”

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better Boomer->Millenial toxic masculinity example before. I guess I could just use an image of Married With Children, but this feels more poignant.

The rest of the world deserves Trump 2.0 far more than the average American.

And here’s some American Exceptionalism, man, what a goldmine for sociopathic quotes.

Trump and Elon are literally European agents (yes, Elon is Euro in every aspect but place of birth, and the Trump-Putin connection needs no further explanation

hahahah, ‘Elon is Euro in every aspect except the things that would make someone European’.

Have you ever been told ‘no’ or that you haven’t done a good job ever in your life, or are the women too nervous that you’ll backhand them for that to happen?

Okay bro wtf is that wall of text. They’re all communist, full stop. Trying to label them something else doesn’t change the fact that communism is a political system for psychopaths

Man, I had some hope you’d look past your propaganda and programming, but I guess not.

I wish you the best in the future; try looking into what you’re being fed. After you work through the humiliation of accepting the easy lies of conservatives, please remember you’re not the only one to fall for it. It’s very common, especially amongst men.

Good luck, you are loved ❤️

  • Okay, what about …

Look, I know you’re in your young 20’s, almost definitely white, definitely a man, and I was once each of those things, too.

You’ve gone down the Right-wing pipeline, you’ve nodded along, you’ve downed the kool-aid. From the sounds of it a light sprinkling of an extremely flawed, right-wing education system.

You are not experiencing your own thoughts. You’re regurgitating arguments you’ve heard online; over and over again, you say the same things, respond in the same way, make the same mistakes. You hamfistedly wave at anyone who ever called themselves socialist and go ‘see! look at these mistakes! They’re all the same!’ When in reality:

Although the emergence of the Soviet Union as the world’s first nominally socialist state led to widespread association of socialism with the Soviet economic model, it has since shifted in favour of democratic socialism. Academics recognised the mixed economies of several Western European and Nordic countries as “democratic socialist”.[34][35] Following the revolutions of 1989, many of these countries moved away from socialism as a neoliberal consensus replaced the social democratic consensus in the advanced capitalist world.[36] In parallel, many former socialist politicians and political parties embraced “Third Way” politics, remaining committed to equality and welfare while abandoning public ownership and class-based politics.[37] Socialism experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 2010s.

Let’s look at Pol Pot, to go back to your whataboutism:

    Ideologically a Maoist and a Khmer ethnonationalist…

Seriously, it’s on his goddamn wikipedia page, dude. This, what you’re doing here? It’s embarrassing. You think you’re standing up to those meany evil ‘left-wingers’ when in reality you’re a Toy Poodle for fascism, yapping at what you’re told to, always waiting for another head pat from your online friends that never quite comes, never quite seems to make you feel like you feel it should.

Conservative parties began because aristocrats felt they had lost too much power, and wanted into the parliamentary system. It’s oligarchs now. Is that really who has your best interest? Do you think Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk or Trump care about you? That they will ever do something for you, at the expense of themselves?

Because over on the socialist side we’re at the protests, we’re at the strikes, we’re demanding change, we’re helping the poor, we’re punching up at authority. You’re ideologically marching alongside cops, brown shirts, Nazi’s, and you what, think they’ll spare you? At best you’re meat for the grinder when the fighting starts.

Look into all of this. Really dive into what Conservatism is, why it was created, how it’s been opposed to every advancement in society that you enjoy: shorter work weeks, shorter work days, actual safety for workers, workers compensation, paternity leave, health care, freedom to strike, etc. All of those are socialist-won, often through literal bloodshed.

What have wealthy billionaires done to make your life better? Why do you think they’re so invested in keeping you angry at visible minorities, women, ‘the left’, the 2% of the planet who are transgendered, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community? Why is it your enemies are all exactly strong enough to scare you, yet so weak you can insult them for it? Why do you have to punch down to hit these terrifying enemies of whatever it is you hold dear?

  • And no. Lemmy is a itty bitty part of the world. Why would I think it’s a world-wide leftist conspiracy?

Oh when you said “No wonder the left is upset, their propaganda department is being shut down.” over USAID being ransacked by fascists, I just assumed you thought the entire world was a leftist conspiracy.

I’ve met people in reality who feel the same way as you, and I wanted to ask you something:

Wonder if our media that is largely Republican controlled and owned by Western billionaires could maybe have some anti-CCP bias

Why does that mean that China is good? Like I understand that specific things western media says could be wrong, but we have a hell of a lot of proof about what they’ve done. So what I don’t get is, sure media is owned by billionaires and corrupt, but why does that mean that the exact opposite is what’s true? Stalin/Nazi Germany and Hitler/Germany hated each other, constantly lied about each other, but that never meant that either of them were ‘good.’ So why does it apply here?

  • Our healthcare is tied to our work here in America

And general strikes were how you got any health care, time off, better work hours, work safety, etc. The fact is, we’re at the point where people have to do this, and it sucks, and no the boomers didn’t, but some of their parents may have (depending where you’re from.)

The fact is Americans believe the narrative that they can’t strike because they’ll ‘lose too much,’ but the reality is they’ll lose it anyway. A Fascist Oligarch is literally stealing their SSN’s and personal info to put them on lists and they’re still saying “yeah man but if I don’t work my shift at waffle house I won’t make rent.” What about when decide you’re not white enough to work? Or not white enough to cross the street? Or that women aren’t allowed to do that job anymore? Or when they just arrest you because you looked at a cop at the wrong time?

Kids being born just to throw onto the wage slavery pile, the worst healthcare of any peer nation (and most below), leading cause of death for pregnant women is being shot by their partners, concentration camps being set up, an entire middle class gone and replaced with people a hundred bucks from destitution, a child’s most likely cause of death is gun violence in their schools, super PACs, Citizens United, the Patriot Act, skyrocketing rental costs, skyrocketing grocery costs, and you just roll over for all of it.

What WOULD it take for you guys to do something?
